OPTION TWO

This option would involve using a mixture of file footage with 3D animation to describe the process.  The presenter would be seen much less since their main function would be that of voice over.

File Footage

Standard costings for file footage involve a research fee of approximately $600, plus $10 per second of footage used.  This payment usually has to be repeated for every year during the life of the product.   If we decide to use this option, I would suggest that we make the footage very specific in terms of the ‘types’ of fires we use to back up each voice over and animated segment.  This means that a fee would also be charged for a member of our team to assist the library researcher who is sourcing the footage.

3D Animation

3D Animation simply uses diagrams that move to describe the action.  It includes figurines or ‘people’ and can be as simple or complex as you would like.  Naturally, the simpler the drawing, the less expensive the process.  It is worth considering that a simple illustration is often more effective than a photograph when conveying information.   For example, drawings are favoured over photographs when something is explained to a jury.

It is important that you understand that 3D Animation is a timely and therefore costly process.  When compared to the cost of purchasing a building to burn it down, however, this option begins to make more sense.

The Shoot

If you decide to take up this option, we would then recommend one day of interior shooting with the rest of the budget being used for pre and post production.  Pre-production time would need to be longer in order to correctly plan the 3D Animation storyboard.  Post-production may be longer, since we are combining completely different types of media in the one video.
